The day began with a whole school assembly in which Miss Jones, who willbecome Mrs Sullivan in the summer, was presented with a wedding gift, and goodbye presentations were made to Miss Marriott (leaving to teach in Singapore); Mrs Weeden (retiring); Mrs Jackson (becoming a PE adviser); Mr Seymour (becoming ICT Manager in another school); and Mr Hind (moving on to become Deputy Head of Hellingly Primary).
Year 6 children spent the day getting their shirts signed in the traditional manner.
Mr Thorn's Book Group had a lunchtime party.

Selected older juniors attended a 'salsa' workshop during the afternoon.
In the evening some mebers of staff attended a social event in Lewes and Brighton.
All newly-appointed teachers were in school today for the afternoon class changeover and for a staff meeting at 4pm.
In the evening from 6-8pm there was the traditional barbecue & activities leavers' party for Year 6.
The school held a Mufti Day.
The cricket team travelled to Horsham for the Caffyns 20-over Finals. Although they lost both the semi-final and 3rd-4th playoff, the team (under the captaincy of J Leckie) maintained their good spirits to the end and were justifiably proud of their 4th place medals.
A presentation was made to Mrs Palframan, who will be on maternity leave until the New Year.
Years 5 and 6 presented a triumphant 'final night' performance of their Wizard of Oz production. Mr Wilson, who retired as headteacher at Easter, was in the audience as a special guest and said that it was the first time he had actually sat down to watch a school producation after all those years of standing at the back.
Years 5 and 6 presented two performances of their adaptation of The Wizard of Oz, at 1.45pm and 7pm.

During the afternoon, Years 5 and 6 presented their Wizard of Oz production to the rest of the school, in the form of a Dress Rehearsal.
Some members of staff met after school for an informal end-of-term(ish) barbecue and game of stoolball.

An Open Evening was held between the end of the school day and 5.30pm, giving parents an opportunity to view children's work, discuss annual reports with current classteachers and to visit the yeargroup base their child will be in in September.

Interviews were held at the school in the morning to fill the one remaining teaching vacancy, and an appointment was made.
KS2 children received their sports day certificates in a special assembly at the end of the day.
Mr Hind, who will be Deputy Head of Hellingly Primary from September, spent the day at Hellingly teaching his new class.
At lunchtime a group of students from HCC took over the school field and organised some special activities for Sports Releief Day.
The Senior Management Team met after school to begin looking at newly-produced materials on continuous professional development.
18 Fair
Miss A Graves, a newly-appointed teacher, visited the school to discuss PE with Mrs Jackson.
A cricket match against Little Common [AWAY] had to be stopped because of the heavy rain. As this was the 3rd round of a knockout competition a winner had to be decided on the basis of a Stump Bowl-out, which had something of the atmosphere of a penalty shootout. Each team selected 5 bowlers. They took turns bowling one ball at the stumps. Our captain was the only player to score a direct hit, so we won the game, and go through to the County Finals at Horsham cricket ground on Friday July 16th.
14C Heavy rain
Mr Thorn attended the launch of the LEA's new guidleines on Developing excellence in race equality in our schools, at Powdermills Hotel, Battle. This included a screening of One of Us, a short film exploring the experiences of Black and Minortiy Ethnic young people in East Sussex.
The award-winning journalist, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, was the keynote speaker.
There was a meeting in the evening for parents of next year's new intake.
15C Wind and heavy rain
The cricket team had a friendly match against Chiddlingly [AWAY] and achieved an easy victory against a less experienced side. Despite losing by a wide margin the Chiddingly team played with great spirit, one of their batsmen hitting a superb six off the final ball.
Rehearsals for the Y5/6 production are in full swing. The performances take place next week.

The Year 2 classes walked to Hellingly Church as part of their geography work for the term.
Autumn born children who will be starting school in September spent the afternoon in Reception. Spring-born and summer-born will do likewise on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mrs Jackson showed staff how she has used video during this year for the development of core tasks in Gymnastics. Funding from her research is to be used to provide each yeargroup with digital cameras capable of shooting good quality video.
