Hailsham Roadway

Hailsham Roadway were in school yesterday and today patching the tarmac on the paths around the building.
Mrs Cobb and Mr Thorn both attended a day's training yesterday at Halland Forge, on the subject of Remodelling the Workforce.
Mr Harman attended a Pre-Installation morning seminar yesterday on Windows 2003 Server, and reported back to Mr Thorn.
A representatrive of BT visited school this morning to discuss the programme for the BT Roadshow visit scheduled for February 2nd 2005.

Past Week

A picture of the Pudsey Bear coin collectioin appeared on the front page of today's Sussex Express. In Good Work assembly Miss Porter announced the winners of a recent Music Quiz.
Yesterday afternoon Miss Carver was left in charge while the whole of the senior managment team attended a Primary Leadership Programme event at Wellshurst Golf Club. In the morning Mr Thorn had attended training in SIMS.net and Mrs Sweatman attended the full day's training.
On Wednesday both Mrs Cobb and Mr Thorn attended a day's conference on Remodelling of the Workforce and Performance Management at the Kings Centre, Eastbourne.

Author Visit & Pudsey Bear

Children brought in copper coins for the annual Children In Need collection and covered Pudsey Bear designs in the hall.

In the afternoon, popular children's author, Jean Ure, was in school to talk about her work and sign copies of her books.

She gave the children lots of valuable advice about 'getting ideas' and how to use them, then entertained them with some of the rude verses from The Secret Life Of Sally Tomato.

The Week So Far

The main subject of Monday's staff meeting was Maths, with the numeracy co-ordinator, Miss S. Hines, leading a session on problem solving.
On Tuesday morning Mr Thorn met with all teaching assistants. In the afternoon he visited Chyngton Primary School in Seaford to share and compare approaches to assessment and target-setting. Mrs Cobb and Miss Graves were both out of school for the whole day.
There was a Governors meeting yesterday (Wednesday) at 5pm. During the morning the school was visited by the headteacher of Fermor Primary School in Crowborough.
During Tuesday and Wednesday, the two support teachers, Mrs Sweatman and Mrs van Dijkhyuizen met with parents to review children's targets.
This afternoon, Mrs J. Jackson was in school to carry out further work with playleaders. Mrs Harley, NQT, was out of school attending a training course.
The Senior Management Team met together at the end of the day.

Local Heads Meeting

Mrs Cobb attended an afternoon meeting of headteachers in the Hailsham area. A selection of novels by Jean Ure has arrived in school, a week ahead of her author visit on Friday 19th November. Children have been invited to reserve copies for signing on the day.

Target Setting

Mrs Cobb, Mr Thorn and Mrs C Wilson (governor) met with an adviser from the LEA to agree end-of-key-stage targets for 2005 at KS1 and for 2006 at KS2.

At the end of the afternoon a Brighton Bears basketball team member visited the school and gave a group of pupils a talk, signed autographs and donated some tickets for this Saturday's match.

November newsletter

The items ordered from this year's Tesco catalogue, in return for vouchers collected by parents, arrived in school today: a laptop, a digital movie creator (for pupil use) and an extra extension to our datalogging resource.

Mrs Cobb's November newsletter was sent home today. It is also availalble on the school website:

Also sent home today, a flier to parents of children in Years 4, 5 and 6, publicising the visit of author Jean Ure on Friday Novermber 19th.

Video Added

A short video (only suitable for broadband users) of the Victorian Day has been added to the website. There is also a small gallery of stills.

Mrs Cobb was out during the morning, attending IRT training.
Mr Thorn went to an inclusion team meeting at HCC in the afternoon.

INSET DAY

The entire staff met during the morning to review Teaching & Learning and School Development. We were joined by two Governors, Mr Steve Mewett and Rhona Drever. A buffet lunch was provided.
In the afternoon the leadership team met to redraft the school's aims in the light of the morning session, whilst other staff had time to plan.
