There were snowfalls at the start of the week, with most falling overnight on Tuesday, which meant that children woke to a wintry scene on Wednesday morning. Despite cold temeperatures, the snow quickly thawed in the sunshine, and although there have been light flurries since, nothing has settled. In contrast to other areas of the county and country, there has been no disruption to the school's opening hours.
There was a Governors meeting at 5pm on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Mrs Sweatman and Mrs van Dijkhuizen visited Hoddern School and Mr Lowe and Miss Carver attended KS2 SATS Training. Mrs Cobb was also out for the day.
Today, Y6 visited the 7 Sisters Country Park for the day, in connection with their Geography work. Miss Hines and Mrs Burbidge visited Grovelands during the afternoon, and Miss Graves took the school's cross-country team to an event in Seaford. All our runners did well and will proceed to the next (3rd) round, which will be a Saturday event.

Mrs Cobb and Mr Thorn met with Richard Wallis of the Wallis Foundation during the morning to audit returns from staff for the 'Expert Trail'.

Miss Graves took a team of runners to HCC this afternoon, to compete in an inter-schools cross-country event - and our team won the event. Congratulations to all who took part.
Mr D Purvey gave a calrinet recital to KS2 children in the afternoon.
At the end of the day two school netaball teams played matches at home against Maynards Green. Our teams included many Y4 players and others who were playing their first school match. Both teams lost but put up a spirited performance.
Meanwhile the cricket team was practising for the coming season on the other playground.

An evening meeting was held at Hawkes Farm last night at 7pm, when Dame Sheila Wallis addressed representatives of schools participating in the pilot group, and explained to them the impact the scheme had had in her own school.
The school's volunteer playleaders are seen here parading their newly arrived jackets in junior assembly this afternoon.

A newsletter went home yesterday highlighting the Chief Inspector of Schools' Annual Report for 2003/4 (just published), in which Hawkes Farm is singled out for special praise. Less than 10% of schools inspected during 2003/4 are given this distinction and Hawkes Farm is the only East Sussex school included in the list of 'particularly successful' schools.

Two school football teams played teams from Hellingly after school yesterday and both our teams won.
Earlier in the day, Years 5 and 6 attended a BT Roadshow presentation in the juniour hall, with Year 5 having follow-up workshops afterwards.
Mr Mike Pashler has been in school today, on a Governor visit. Teachers from Chiddingly visited the school during the morning.
The school's netball team travelled to Grovelands with Miss Graves after school for a 'friendly'.
Our team won the game by two goals.
