At the request of the School Council, the staff performed a Variety Show for the children this afternoon, the last day of term. Children paid 50p to attend, with proceeds going to a charity aiding recovery in the tsunami area.
Year 5 walked into Hailsham for the morning to conduct a survey connected with their current work in Geography.

The week was dominated by rehearsals for and performances of The Giant Slayer, the 2005 Y3/4 production.

Other main events this past week:
Two students from Illinois University began a block placement in Year 4.
Interviews for two Teaching Assistant vacancies were held on Tuesday and appointments were made for Reception and Year 3.
The School Change Team met on Wednesday to discuss possible ways of managing workforce remodelling and the allocation of PPA time to classteachers from September.
Mr M. Izon, a new Governor, had an induction visit this morning.
The netball tournament took place at Hawkes Farm during the afternoon. Our team came third.
The whole school dressed up in red for Red Nose Day. At mid-morning break everyone assembled on the KS2 playground to form a giant-sized hairy nose.

A drama group consisting of children from years 3 to 5 put on two performances of a medley of improvisation on the theme of school life. Parents were invited in to the first of the performances.
This afternoon the school football team won the local tournament yet again. They qualified for the final in a penalty shootout against Grovelands, and then beat Herstmonceux 1 - 0.
Yesterday afternoo, four children in Year 6 competed against teams from other local primary school in the annual Rotary Quiz. It was Hawkes Farm's turn to the host the event and our team came equal second.
The school is open late this evening to allow parents to attend the Parent Evening meetings with classteachers postponed from last week.

The whole school spent World Book Day (yesterday) 'making books'. The day ended with an Usborne Book Sale. Winners of a special World Book Day competition (entrants had to draw and name a character then make up the first three titles in a series featuring this character) received ?4 and ?2 vouchers to add to their ?1 WBD Book Tokens.
Today's Good Work Assembly is devoted to the best of the 'made' books throughout the school.

The school re-opens today, having been closed yesterday due to bad weather.

The school informed local radio soon after 8am that it would be unable to open today, because of the number of staff who were finding it impossible to travel in to Hailsham.
The deadline for World Book Day competition entries is now Thirsday 3rd March, World Book Day itself.

Christine Dickens, an assessment co-ordinator, visited the school and spent part of the morning with Mrs Cobb, Mr Thorn and the two Y2 teachers (Miss Hines and Mirs Burbidge) to discuss assessment arrangements.
Yesterday, Mr P Trott paid a Governor Visit to Year One, and Mr G Toomey of Hailsham football club was a guest at KS1 assembly.
There is a parent evening at school today from 3.30 - 6.30, and another on Thursday from 4.30 - 7.30.
