KS2 had a very fine day for Sports Day, which coincided with Mrs Cobb's birthday. After all the track events and circular activities the children all sang Happy Birthday. In the morning there had been a teachers' race, won by Mr Lowe with Mrs Cobb in 2nd place.
The cricket team won the Hailsham round of the Davies & Tate Kwik Cricket Tournament, winning five games in succession, and will now compete in the grand finals at the County Ground on Wednesday July 6th.
The cricket team suffered its second defeat by Little Common in the 11-a-side hardball competition. They have a really good bowling side this year and although our batsmen 'batted out' the full 20 overs of their innings, the accurate bowling kept the scoring rate down and Little Common managed to score the winning runs with several overs to spare.
There was a full Governors meeting at 5pm.
Temperatures both inside and outside school have been above 30C for the past two days.
Yesterday the subject of the weekly staff meeting was Spelling.
Today the school received its termly moderated review visit with a focus on ICT. [Mr Thorn attended the LEA's ICT Strategy Launch & Conference in Eastbourne last Friday.]
Mrs Round has taken over in Y5, Mrs Sullivan having begun her maternity leave at the end of last week.
The cricket team went to Herstmoncuex for the annual cricket tournament organised by the coach, Mr John Woodford. They won all of their three qulaifying games by a wide margin, and played Tollgate in the final, which they also won comfortably. They were presented with individual medals, a school cup, and Hayleigh, the captain, was announced player of the final and given a cricket bag as a prize.
The Governors Staff & Finance Committee met after school, the Curriculum Committee having met yesterday.
A gymnast spent the whole day in school leading exercise sessions with each class and giving each Key Stage an exciting display which ended in a daring leap over volunteers, including Mrs Cobb!
The two Reception classes had a lovely sunny day for their visit to Washbrooks Farm
Fire Safety officers are in school for two days, delivering safety talks to all children in the school.
Mrs Cobb met with both TA's (at 9am) and teachers (at 3.30pm) to discuss the planned approach to providing PPA (Planning, Preparation & Assessment) time from September.
The school cricket team have been knocked out of the 8-a-side hardball tournament. They faced an excellent bowling attack and couldn't recover from the loss of two many wickets lost in the middle order, including a hat-trick.
It was a shame to have lost the first game played with our new hardball equipment. We return to Little Common on Wednesday 22nd June to play a qualifying round in the 11-a-side 20-over game.
Since the last BlgBook entry, Y6 have been on their residential activity PGL trip and Y5 have been to Pyke House. The Y6 page on the website includes a report on the PGL visit, and a presentation of the Pyke House visit will be online shortly.
During the residential visits the rest of the school pasrticipated in an Art Week.
Now we are back at school after the half-term break.
