Thursday 29th June was a competitive day for the school.
The cricket team travelled to Firle to take part in the annual Davies & Tate tournament. They won all three of their games before lunch, and received praise for the way they were encouraging one another on the field. Indeed, fielding was a strength of their performance, with catches held and several spectacular runouts resulting from accurate shies at the stumps.
After lunch they played West Hove, another school that had won all three games so far. It was a tight game with everything hanging in the balance right up until the final over. In the end West Hove just clinched it. The 3rd/4th place play-off was even closer. This time it was Hawkes Farm who emerged as the winning team - by just 1 run! (West Haove was beaten in the final - also by just 1 run - by Southover).
Meanwhile, back at school the swimming team travelled to the Lagoon in the afternoon to compete in the annual swimming gala. They swam brilliantly and were outright winners of the competition.
In the evening a small team of Year 6 children took part in the East Sussex Primary Schools Maths Quiz, a tense Do You Want To Be A Millionaire style competitin. Our team did really well and made it to a third place tie-breaker.

Two students from HCC have been in school all week on Work Experience.
On Tuesday 13th June Years 3 and 4 enjoyed an Indian Dance Day.
There have been two cricket matches this week. The school team lost against Grovelands on Tuesday, having batted rather recklessly and lost too many wickets. But on Thursday they had a comfortable win against Tollgate, with a Y1 pupil making his debut appearance in the team. The team play their first match in the 8-a-side hardball boys' knockout tournament at Little Coomon after school today.
On Wednesday members of the Book Group attended the final award ceremony for the East Sussex Children's Book Award, held at Ocklynge School. They were accompanied by Miss Bond, as Mr Thorn was attending a meeting in Eastbourne about provision for Gifted & Talented children.

Children arrived for school today dressed in summery 'mufti' and donated tombola prizes for tomorrow's Summer Fair for the privilege.
In the last week of May Year 5 had their residential visit to Pyke House, with each class visiting the Paddock Wood Hop Farm museums, Rye, and Battle Abbey.
