No More Snow

Mrs Cobb returned to work today, feeling much better.

The snow did not return and the temperature is once again back in double figures.

A group of children who recently attended a special afternoon in Eastbourne for pupils Gifted & Talented in PE received certificates at the end of this morning's KS2 Assembly (about Holocaust Memorial Day). Four of them have been selected to take part in a further even during the coming week-lon holiday.

Snow!

Mrs Cobb is away with an inner ear infection and so Mr Thorn has been showing groups of prospective parents around the school. There have been three tour-the-school sessions: Monday morning, Tuesday afternoon, and again this morning.

The first snowfall of 2007 came overnight on Tuesday/Wednesday.
By lunchtime on Wednesday the snow had gone.
But more snow is forecast for Wednesday/Thursday night.

Newsletter & Committees

A fire practice was held on Tuesday 16th January. Children left the school building quickly but were reminded that they were expected to walk to the assembly point without talking.

The January newsletter was sent home at the start of the week. The Governors' Curriculum Committee met on Wednesday afternoon and the Finance Committee on Thursday.

The subject of Thursday's staff meeting was Literacy. Principal subjects discussed were the organisation and recording of Guided Reading, and the skeleton timetable for Book Week (wb. February 26th).

The week has been very wet and windy. Today is calmer and still mild

East Sussex 2007 Book Award

The shortlisted books for this year's East Sussex Book Award (now in its second year) arrived while Mr Thorn was at the BETT exhibition (see below) so he held an extra Book Club meeting today to announce the shortlist and distribute the books amongst group members.

The Amazing Story Of Adolphus Tips by Michael Morpurgo

New Year

The new term started yesterday, rather later than usual. This term is only five weeks long.

A thank you letter from Mr Procter was read out to children in both assemblies on Monday morning. His successor, Mr Driver, worked alongside Mr Procter during December so that he was aware of procedures.

End-of-day staff meetings have moved from Mondays to Thursdays for the next two terms, until Easter. The morning briefings have in turn moved from Thursdays to Mondays at 08:45h.

The weather is mild, but very windy.
