This is the last newsletter this term. Please do take time to read through, so that you are aware of the changes for September.

1 STAFF CHANGES

Staff Who Will Be Leaving This Term
We will be saying farewell to the following staff at the end of this term. During their time at Hawkes Farm they have all contributed to the successes of the school. They will all be missed, but I know you wish them all the best for the future.
Ø Mr Gary Hind – promotion to Deputy Headteacher at Hellingly School
Ø Mr Ashley Seymour – promotion to ICT Manager at Meridian School, Peacehaven
Ø Mrs Julie Jackson – promotion to PE & Sports Development Officer at East Sussex LEA
Ø Miss Sarah Marriott – teaching in Singapore
Ø Mrs Sue Weeden – retiring

New Staff for September
We have employed new staff for September with experience and interest in Physical Education and the Arts. This will help us continue the broad range of expertise we already offer at school, as well as look for new opportunities for the children.
Key Stage 1 Mrs Dee Thomas
Key Stage 2 Mrs Michelle Harley
Miss Amy Graves
Miss Melanie Bond

We will be interviewing next week for one more teacher to join our infant team.

2 OPEN AFTERNOON

This will take place on Monday, 12th July between 3.30 – 5.30 pm. You are invited with your child to come and visit their classroom and see the work they have been doing this year and to speak to their classteacher about their school report. Please do take this opportunity to visit the other classrooms as well as the year group area for your child in September.

Usually at this time you and your child would get to visit the new classteacher, but I’m sure that you are aware with the changes that are taking place, it will need to happen later this term.

3 CLASS ORGANISATION FOR SEPTEMBER

New classes for September will be published on Friday, 16th July. Children will meet their new teachers on Monday, 19th July at 2.00 pm. Parents are invited to come and meet their child’s new teacher between 3.15 – 4.00 pm on the Monday.

The School Council have organised a Mufti day for Friday, 16th July. The theme for this day will be “Summer”. Be creative and bring your buckets and spades. A 50p contribution to take part.

5 HOLIDAYS IN TERM TIME

“The law states that parents/carers do not have the right to take children out of school for holidays in term time.” (DfES)

As from September 1st 2004 the Hailsham and Eastbourne schools will no longer be authorising holidays in term time. At this moment we have had no information about the suggested penalty fines from the Department for Education and Skills. As soon as I receive information I will let you know. For further details, please look on the East Sussex website: www.eastsussexcc.gov.uk / education and learning / attendance.

8 THANK YOU

I have had a wonderful first term at Hawkes Farm. The support from staff, governors, parents and children has made me value how important the school is as part of the community. I look forward to working with you all next year.
