1 Fantastic News
Hawkes Farm School has been identified by Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools (OfSTED) in its 2003/2004 Annual Report as an extremely effective school. The Report will highlight the high quality education that is provided and states that pupils achieve very well. I would like to congratulate staff, governors, pupils and parents for all their hard work in making Hawkes Farm such a successful school. Our success will be highlighted in the local press this week. I’m sure you will all feel proud of the school’s achievements.

2 Roll of Honour ( Years 2 – 6)
We continue to celebrate children’s achievements on our Roll of Honour display in the junior hall. If your child receives an award for an out of school activity, please do let your child’s teacher know.

3 School Council
The School Council will be organising two fund-raising events this term.
- The first is on 11th March – Red Nose Day. We would like to invite the children to take part in a “Mad Red Day”. Children can either wear red clothes, have red hair, wear red noses, etc.
- The second event, which we hope will provide fun and laughter: The staff have been asked to provide a “Talent Show” afternoon. The funds raisED will go towards the Tsunami Appeal. This will take place on Wednesday, 22nd March.

We would like to ask for contributions of 50p each or £1 per family at each fundraising event. We hope as many children as possible will support the School Council’s fundraising events.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our recent Tsunami Mufti Day – We raised £243.86. Well done!

4 School Information
If your child is absent from school, please could you contact the School Office on the first day of absence, preferably before 8.45am on 01323 440434. This is the answer machine which will pick up your message before the school day starts. Thank you.

5 Safety in School
a) A reminder to your children to use the children’s entrances to enter the school grounds. A number of children have been using the car park entrance. As this gets very busy, we do ask that children don’t use the car park gates for their own safety.
b) Children should not arrive on the school premises before 8.45am when a member of the school staff is on duty. The only exception is when they are taking part in the 8.30am recorder sessions.
c) If your child is late for school, they must report to the School Office.
d) If you are unable to collect your child on time, please contact the school before 3.10pm. We will then make the necessary arrangements.

6 Year 6 Cycling Proficiency
An early message to Year 6 parents. We have organised cycling proficiency to take place from 17th May, over a two week period. More information about the course will be sent to you after the Easter break.

7 Year 1 Parents Footsteps
You should have received a letter about Road Safety training for all Year 1 children. We do need as many helpers as possible. If you need to know more, please could you see Mrs Nash or Mrs Vickers in Year 1.

8 New Reception Class - September, 2005
If your child is due to start school in September, please make sure you have handed in your green school preference form to the Office by the closing date (4th February, 2005).

9 Parents’ Evening
Parents’ evening will take place on Tuesday, 1st March and Thursday, 3rd March. You will receive a letter in the next few weeks

Thank you for your continued support. Well done to everyone on the excellent report by OfSTED (Her Majesty’s Inspector of Schools).
