1 STAFF CHANGES
I am delighted to inform you of the new staff who will be joining us in September:
Year 1 teacher Mrs Denise van Dijkhuizen
Year 2 teacher Mrs Joanna Mans
Year 5 teacher Miss Rebecca Dean
Year 6 teacher Mr James Goatley

They will all visit before the end of term and meet their new classes on Monday, 18th July. Mrs Sullivan is now on Maternity Leave and hoping to return for the beginning of the spring term. She will return as a part-time teacher. Our staffing structure will be given in detail in the September Newsletter.

2 SUN PROTECTION
As the days get hotter, please make sure that your child brings a water bottle to school. They are allowed sun cream, but they have to administer this themselves. We do expect children to be sensible when using their sun cream at school. Your child will also benefit from wearing a hat to protect them. The “Sunsafe” leaflets have already gone out this term.

3 FRIENDS OF HAWKES FARM
Many thanks again to the committee and Karen Sellens for organising a fantastic Summer Fair - even the weather was great! It was an afternoon of fun and games. Thanks to all of you who attended the Fair and your continued support for the school. We managed to raise £3676, so congratulations to everyone.

4 REFURBISHMENT OF INFANT CLASSROOMS
During the summer holiday, all of the infant classrooms will be redecorated, new carpet, lino in activity areas as well as the toilet areas being refurbished. The work will take place during August and we hope it will be completed by 2nd September.

5 INFANT PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT
As part of the School Development Plan, we are extending the outdoor activities. The first part of this has already been achieved with a new play train and play home. We do however, ask parents to make sure that children do not use the equipment before and after school. This already applies to the Junior Adventure area. This is a Health & Safety precaution as staff are not supervising these areas at these times. Thank you for your help during these times.

6 SCHOOL UNIFORM
It’s that time of year when summer school clothes appear, as well as parents planning for next September. We have tried to give you enough notice of school uniform changes which take effect from September. Below are details of our uniform policy to support you in the next few months of purchasing new school clothes. Please remember to label all items.

A reminder that children must wear school shoes during lesson times. These need to be black in colour, suitable and safe. We also allow all black trainers below the ankle. Junior children do bring other trainers to change into for play times.

All pupils are expected to wear school uniform. The school colours are bottle-green and white and the uniform consists of the following:-
- Girls: Grey skirt, pinafore dress or trousers, white or green blouse or polo shirt, bottle-green cardigan or sweatshirt.
- Boys: Grey shorts / trousers, white or green shirt or polo shirt, bottle-green pullover or school sweatshirt.
Most of these items are obtainable from multiple chain stores.
Jeans, ski pants and leggings are not considered suitable school wear! Skirts should be approximately knee length, and trousers should be straight legged.
Footwear must be black in colour, suitable and safe. Shoes with anything other than flat heels are not permitted. (Plain, all black trainers below ankle are permitted.)
School sweatshirts in bottle-green, with the school badge printed on the front, are available from the school, priced from £8.00. Cardigans are also available priced from £9.50 and green and white polo shirts with the school badge embroidered cost £7.00.
FOR PE
For reasons of both hygiene and safety all children are expected to change clothing for PE and games. All children require:-
Plain Black PE shorts, plimsolls, and a school polo or plain white T-shirt.
White T-shirts with the school badge printed on the front are available from the school, priced £3.50 and may be worn for PE and Games.

FOR GAMES (Years 3 to 6 only)
Shorts, shirt and boots / trainers. (These items need not, of course, be exactly as stated, but a change of clothing is essential for outdoor games.)

SWIMMING takes place during the summer months. All swimwear should be one piece and all children are required to wear swimming hats.

BAGS
Our cloakroom space is very limited. We therefore ask that all PE / Games clothing is brought in a drawstring bag which can be hung from a peg. (These are available from the school priced £3.00 small / £3.50 large.) Large holdall bags are not permitted. Cloakrooms should be cleared every Friday so that kit can be washed.
ALL CLOTHING SHOULD BE CLEARLY MARKED PLEASE.
• If an item of clothing is lost, please check lost property boxes in the first instance. We are constantly amazed by the vast quantity of property which is never claimed. Lost property is displayed at the end of each half-term.
Jewellery may not be worn in school. The only exceptions are watches, and studs for pierced ears.
The school cannot be responsible for valuables brought into school.

7 CYCLING PROFICIENCY
A reminder that only those children who have completed their cycling proficiency are allowed to ride and store their bikes at school. All cyclists must wear a helmet in line with safety procedures.

8 PARENTS’ VIEWS
I have now experienced a full year at Hawkes Farm. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time and would now welcome your views on the school. Questionnaires will be included with your child’s School Report. If you do have some time to spare to fill in the questionnaire and return it to the school by the end of term, I can then feedback some of your ideas in the September Newsletter.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mrs V Cobb
Headteacher
