Dear Parents
This is
the last newsletter for this academic year. I would like to thank you
all for the support you have given to the school over the last 12 months.
1 OPEN
AFTERNOON
A reminder that there is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s
new class teacher on Monday, 17th July from 3.30 – 5.00pm. Please
do come in with your child to look round and see where they will be in
September.
2 HOLIDAYS
IN TERM TIME
Many thanks for the effort put in to make sure that your child does not
miss out on their education. This year we have seen a drop in figures.
We hope to receive more guidance from the government about attendance
in the autumn with their introduction of a national coding system for
all children in England and Wales.
We do ask
that if you are booking holidays for next year that you check the term
dates on the East Sussex website or contact the school office.
3 SCHOOL
DINNERS
From September, 2006 the Government requires oily fish to be included
within school menus every three weeks. In support of this, the LEA have
linked up with the Sea Fish Industry Authority to secure a school-based
promotion that will raise awareness amongst pupils of the benefits of
fish in the diet. You will shortly be receiving an explanatory letter
and box of promotion materials from this organisation. Initial Catering
have agreed to provide the back-up involvement and participation of kitchen
staff, for example distribution of stickers on appropriate ‘fish’
menu days.
4 DISABLED
PARKING
We do ask that parents do not use the school staff car park for dropping
children off or collecting them at the end of the day. The only exception
to this is with the agreement of the Headteacher for registered disabled
persons.
5 MILK
SCHEME
East Sussex has introduced a new milk scheme from September – details
of which will be sent out with this Newsletter. Please note that all administration
is now dealt directly with the company www.CoolMilk.com
6 FOHF
– SUMMER FAIR
A BIG congratulations to the FOHF Committee, staff, parents and friends
who helped at the Fair this year. The Fair raised £5,000 towards
the new outside learning environment and other projects supported by the
Committee. Thank you to everyone for your support this year.
7 AGM
– FOHF
This will now take place on Wednesday, 20th September at 8.00pm in the
Infant Hall. We hope that new members will come forward to offer their
help at the various events planned for next year. Have your say by getting
involved.
8 SPORTS & SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Cricket
Our cricket team has had another busy season, with a wide range of children
participating in both inter-club and school matches. The team has included
several young members, which bodes well for the future. In fact, as well
as Yr 3 children playing for the side, for the first time ever a boy in
Yr 1 has played for the team.
Tournament
success has evaded us this year, but only just. In each of the main softball
tournaments we failed to reach the final through losing just one game.
Every other game was won handsomely and the team received several compliments
for their team spirit and keenness to encourage one another in the field.
It has been a pleasure to watch several Year 6 players developing into
cricketers of considerable promise. (report by Mr Thorn)
Swimming
Well done to the Years 5 & 6 swimming team. They won the Hailsham
Schools’ Trophy at the Lagoon on 29th June.
Maths
Quiz
Year 6 Maths team did extremely well at the East Sussex Maths Quiz. We
impressed them so much that they want to hold the event here next year!
Well done.
School
Trips
Fantastic time was had by all at the following trips this year:
Reception – Washbrooks Farm
Year 1 – Eastbourne Beach
Year 2 – Seven Sisters
Year 3 – British Museum
Year 4 – Michelham Priory
Year 5 – Pyke House Residential
Year 6 – PGL Activity Weekend
Please check
out our website to see photos of the trips www.hawkesfarm.co.uk
Thank you
for your contributions which make these trips happen and bring learning
alive for the children.
Indian
Workshop
We booked an Indian Dance day for Years 3, 4 & 5 this year. The children
enjoyed the experience and we were particularly impressed by the enthusiasm
of the boys! Well done. However, we shall be looking at other ways of
supporting this experience next year as it did not prove to be good value
for money!
9
GOVERNORS
Thank you to all the Governors for their support this year. We say good-bye
to Steve Mewett, Mark Izon and Rhona Drever who have supported the school
in its development over the years.
We will
have a Parent Governor vacancy, and nominating papers will go out in September.
If you are interested, please do come and find out about the role.
10 SCHOOL
RESULTS
Our National Standardised Results this year were extremely good. The children
worked very hard to show what they were capable of and I know we all feel
very proud of their achievements. An overview of these will be shared
with you in September.
Thank you
once again for your continued support. Have a very good summer holiday.
