Dear Parents

Welcome back to the summer term. We now have a stock of the new fleeces (in green with the school logo). They have proved to be very popular, priced from £10.00. Please do contact the office if you would like to order one for your child.

1 PE KIT
All children need to have their PE kit in school on Monday ready for the whole week. Your child must have a white T-shirt (not polo shirt), plain black shorts and plimsolls (trainers). PE T-shirts can be purchased from the school for £3.50. All children are expected to change for PE, please do remind your child/ren of this.

There will be a curriculum focus on PE this term when Miss Graves (PE Subject Leader) and myself will be auditing PE throughout the school. As part of this we will be checking PE kits.

2 SWIMMING
We will be starting swimming sessions in term 6 beginning Tuesday, 6th June. You will receive more information (a timetable and a request for extra help) in the next couple of weeks.

3 FRIENDS OF HAWKES FARM
We have had a very exciting time over the last term with new purchases from the FoHF. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the fundraising events over the last year. It has made a considerable difference to the learning environment with the new purchases.

We now have a play boat, extra train carriage, noticeboards, play house (reception class area), £200 of play equipment for junior playtimes, extra junior bench and refurbishment of pergola. Thank you for all your help and continued support, and well done to the committee for all their hard work.

4 MID-DAY SUPERVISOR
We have a vacancy for a mid-day supervisor for 6.25 hours a week. The hours are Monday – Friday 11.55am – 1.10pm. If you are interested, please collect an application form from the office. This post will start in Term 6 on Tuesday, 6th June. Closing dated is 19th May.

5 PARKING
We have not received any further information regarding the parking at Union Corner Hall. We understand that local police will be monitoring the situation to support us in easing the parking problems that exist at the beginning and end of the school day.

6 SATS TESTS
During this term, children from Years 1 – 6 will be taking part in School and National tests. These will be reported at the end of the term with your child’s Annual School Report. We will also include more information to help you understand what your child’s results represent in terms of their learning, and what they need to focus on next.

National Tests for Year 2 as part of teaching assessments will take place from now until 19th May.

Year 6 National Tests will all take place the week beginning 8th May.

The school optional tests for Years 3, 4 and 5 will take place from 15th May until the end of term 5. It is very important that your child does not take time off during this period as these results are used to plan targets for the coming terms.

7 SCHOOL TRIPS
It’s that time of the year when all children take part in a school trip. This is linked to the planned curriculum and supports their learning to bring first hand experience to them. This year the following trips will take place:
Reception – Washbrooks Farm
Year 1 – Eastbourne Beach
Year 2 – Seven Sisters Centre
Abbotts Wood (Yr 2 Hailsham Primary Schools’ Project)
Year 3 - British Museum
Year 4 - Michelham Priory
Year 5 – Pyke House (Residential)
Year 6 – PGL Adventure Centre, Hindhead
Years 3, 4 & 5 – Indian Workshop Day

Please be aware that the costs of the day trips can range from £9.00 - £13.50. This includes coach travel, entrance fees, tuition fees, insurance and other transport costs. We do make every effort to find the best value for travel, but find that the costs rise each year. These trips are very valuable and do make a huge difference in bringing the learning alive. We hope you are able to continue to support our summer trips and make sure all children are able to take part. Thank you.
